the children the
world forgot
Tibet known mostly for its peaceful way of life
and for its scenic mountains was invaded by China over fifty years ago. Since then over
one million people have died in one of the longest and bloodiest campaigns of genocide
that the world has ever witnessed. Some governments continue to turn a blind eye as
thousands of children become orphans and live as refugees.Torture and intimidation are
daily facts of life for these gentle people caught up in a campaign to eradicate their
religion, nationality and culture. And while atrocities in Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia
command world attention, the plight of the Tibetan people is largely forgotten.
give a child a chance
Tibetans are now a minority in
their own country. The official Communist forced immigration programme named "The
Final Solution" by some officials gives jobs, land and businesses to the eight
million Chinese settlers who now outnumber Tibetans by up to twenty five to one in some
regions.Tibetan men, women and children are routinely imprisoned and tortured for
questioning the illegal Chinese occupation, even in the most inoffensive ways. For many
the only option is to attempt an escape to freedom and safety.Thousands make the dangerous
two-week trek to India through the Himalayas where the frozen bodies of others who
attempted to escape are often found along the trail. Many die on this journey as a result
of accidents, extreme cold or from the Chinese border patrols.Over 100,000 Tibetan
refugees are now in India, many living in primitive conditions. Hunger and infectious
diseases such as tuberculosis affect large numbers.
help us help them
Of these refugees thousands are children
living in poverty with little hope for the future. Deprived of their families and their
country they urgently need medical care, food, shelter and education.
