Thousands make the dangerous two week trek to India through the Himalayas where the frozen bodies of others who attempted to escape are often found along the trail. Many die on this journey as a result of accidents, extreme cold or from the Chinese border patrols. |
| Over 100,000 Tibetan refugees are now in India, many living in primitive conditions. Hunger and infectious diseases such as tuberculosis affect large numbers. | |
